1856 Carriage Dress by VraiDaae 1856 Carriage Dress by VraiDaae
This Dress was made for my historical clothing presentation called, 'Victorians; The Truth Beneath It All' in which I show my audience what it takes for a woman to get dressed in the mid-19th C.

The dress design itself was taken from the pages of Arthur's Ladies Magizine. It is 10 yards of Silk brocade (small black diamonds on a brown field) and over 50+ yards of trim on the skirt, Bodice and Sleeves.

The Photo was taken in the back garden of The Merchants House museum in NYC.

Thank you! It is hard some times. This Monday I am headed to my Legislature to try to sway the vote not to close most if not all of the Museums and Parks in my County. Can you even imagine. Say a lil prayer for us. We need it!

I'll light a candle here.. I cannot imagine closing all the museums and parks... that's so stupid! I don't care how hard times are, we need them they are an important part of our history they are who we are.

I'll be praying for you... best of everything.

WE went before the Legislature today. They took the bill off of the table. So they can research it. We made a great showing. So many phone calls that we shut down his voice mail service. We have a long way to go but the peoples eyes are open now.

Thank you for the well wishes they are heart felt.

Please keep me informed as to how the battle goes... those of us who try to keep history alive are fighting an uphill battle... but those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it...

Let me know what county you are in... and I'll call circle sisters in your area to let them know of your campaign.

Your work is amazing! I must admit that I'm in no way versed in the art of dress/costume making, but can certainly tell from your descriptions that you know what you're doing. The results look wonderful!

I got you so fooled ;) Just joking...I love costuming after all...If I didn't make it how could I get it to wear it around.

Any way, the carriage dress is a fun one...I feel like a Queen when I wear it..

Thanks again!!
